Vietnam seeks Samsung partnership in AI-integrated chip design for data centers, telecom networks
Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang called on South Korean tech giant Samsung to strengthen its partnership with his ministry in developing Vietnam’s security industry.
The call was made during Quang’s visit to Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen Co., Ltd., in the northern province of Thai Nguyen on Sunday, according to the People’s Public Security newspaper.
Key areas for cooperation include support and technology transfer in AI-integrated chip design for data centers and telecommunications networks, as well as semiconductor chip foundry production lines.
The minister also urged Samsung to provide solutions for building a “smart task management” platform to enhance the application of generative AI in government agencies and developing and operating a digital asset trading platform and training AI-related human resources.
Samsung was also invited to cooperate with Vietnam’s National Data Center and support the Ministry of Public Security in applying high technology for national security management and surveillance.
Other areas of potential cooperation include enhancing innovation capacity for Vietnamese security industry enterprises and training human resources in technology fields. In the near term, the ministry proposed jointly developing a scientific and technological research center focused on security.
Minister Quang affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security will ensure safety and security for Samsung’s operations in Vietnam and stands ready to support and create favorable conditions for the company’s effective and successful investment.
Na Ki Hong, general director of Samsung Vietnam, said that over 50% of Samsung smartphones are currently produced in Vietnam and exported to 128 countries and territories worldwide.
Samsung is the largest foreign direct investor in Vietnam, with total investment exceeding $23.2 billion as of end-2024. It leads the country in export value and plans to invest an additional $1 billion this year.
Last year, Samsung Vietnam earned a revenue of $62.5 billion, including an export income of $54.4 billion. The number of Vietnamese vendors in the Samsung Vietnam ecosystem has reached 306.
Four major factories of Samsung Electronics in Vietnam posted a total profit of KRW966 billion ($689.4 million) in the first quarter of this year, down 39% year-on-year.
This was the lowest first-quarter profit recorded by Samsung Electronics Vietnam since 2016, according to the conglomerate’s Q1 consolidated financial statements.
