PaleBlueDot AI, a Silicon Valley-based AI firm, is seeking a loan of about US$300 million to buy Nvidia chips for use in Japan by Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, sources told Bloomberg.

The chips would be deployed in a Tokyo data center, with Xiaohongshu, also known as Red Note, as the end user, according to people familiar with the matter.

JP Morgan has been involved in preparing marketing materials for potential lenders but may not join the deal, the sources said.

The discussions have been ongoing for at least three months, and it is unclear if the deal will proceed.

A PaleBlueDot AI spokesperson said the information was “factually incorrect” but did not provide details.

JP Morgan declined to comment, while Nvidia and Xiaohongshu did not respond to requests for comment.
