No more data centers: Ohio township pushes back against influx of Amazon, others
Jerome Township said it will pause new construction of data centers for the next nine months amid growing public concerns that two existing Amazon facilities are noisy, energy-hungry and unproductive for local economies.
Township Trustees voted unanimously Sept. 3 to place a moratorium on the “receipt, processing, issuance or approval of any application for a zoning certificate” for data centers to allow officials there to study future growth in the expanding industry. Trustees say multiple applications are awaiting approval that will now be held up.
