Huawei reveals 3-year Ascend AI chip roadmap, 950 coming in 2026
Following the official introduction of the Kirin 9020 5G, Huawei has now shared a 3-year roadmap for Ascend AI chip launches, among which the 950 series is scheduled for 2026. These chips will be more powerful than the previous versions.
On September 18, Huawei announced the new Ascend AI chip roadmap at the Connect 2025 conference. The company revealed how it will evolve the Ascend processor in the upcoming years with several improvements over the last-gen AI chipsets.
Eric Xu, the Rotating Chairman of Huawei, announced that it will launch the Ascend 950 AI chip in 2026. He added that the OEM has several next-gen AI chipsets in the pipeline, and the first of these SoCs will debut in the first quarter of next year.
The company plans to utilize approximately four AI processors over the next three years. The list includes 950PR, 950DT, 960, and 970. 950PR is said to launch for external use in Q1 2026 and will be the first to feature Huawei’s self-made HBM tech.
Ascend 950 series chips will bring many changes over the current 910C. It’ll support low-precision data formats and improved vector computing power. The company will further increase its interconnect bandwidth by 2.5 times.
Huawei’s self-developed HBM technology will be the highlight of this chip. Specifically talking about the 950PR processor, it may boost inference prefill performance and recommendation service performance via HBM, HiBL 1.0.
On the other hand, the 950DT chip can unlock enhanced inference decoding performance. It can improve the training performance and increase memory capacity as well as bandwidth. All three chips will take inference efficiency to the next level.
Meanwhile, the company will unveil the Ascend 960 in the fourth quarter of 2027. Its specs and framework are still under planning and will take time to get finalized.
