Huawei plans 600000 Ascend 910C chips by 2026 to block Nvidia in China
Huawei is trying every little effort to stop Nvidia from entering China and gain its position in the AI market, and one major attempt in this case is ramping up production to 600000 910C chips by 2026. Yes, the company is all set to double the output of its top artificial intelligence processor by next year!
China is currently dealing with Nvidia chip risk tensions. While the US firm is busy making another dedicated AI processor for its Chinese customers, the country is planning to restrict these products following the danger of being tracked by the US.
Amid this chaos, Huawei is in the news for planning 600000 Ascend 910C AI chips by 2026. This will probably double the company’s AI production compared to this year.
Bloomberg reported that Huawei now aims to boost its AI growth with the help of self-developed technologies. It will also now raise the output of its Ascend processors in 2026 to around 1.6 million dies.
If the company really meets this goal, then it will become a major hope for China, eliminating its dependency on foreign products and Nvidia chipsets.
The report further says that Huawei and SMIC together are working on a new plan to put an end to chipmaking challenges that are eventually hindering their AI scope.
At the same time, the parties aim to fulfill China’s self-reliance objectives. Huawei will likely use all those dies next year that were in inventory for a long while, but it was unable to use them following the US restriction pressure.
Nvidia still holds a significant value in the Chinese AI market, compared to Huawei. Though the Chinese OEM has shared its AI chip roadmap for three years, shown how it can rival Nvidia’s dominance in the country.
China, on the other hand, is trying to shut the doors for Nvidia due to security concerns. Even though the US chipmaker reassured China of its products’ safety, things are currently working well for the company.
Inputs suggest China won’t be able to triple its overall chip production by next year, as it is still lacking advanced equipment to make semiconductors. But it is trying to cope with these difficulties and achieve goals without the help of the US.
To sum up, Huawei will disperse around 1.6 million dies across two types of chips next year, which is only 1 million in 2025. Let’s see whether the OEM will be able to reach this goal in 2026.
