Huawei AI chips-powered new iFlytek LLMs can rival OpenAI, DeepSeek
New iFlytek LLMs seem to be proof that China doesn’t require Nvidia anymore, as Huawei AI chips are becoming better day by day. The company has recently revealed how its latest creation can compete with DeepSeek and foreign rival OpenAI.
On April 21, iFlytek announced its new reasoning model – Spark X1, which is entirely trained on Chinese components. It is an upgraded and enhanced LLM that delivers significant boost in performance for general AI tasks and answering queries.
Even though iFlytek Spark X1 LLMs are comparatively smaller than foreign rivals like OpenAI 01, they can still match them in performance and offer a better experience. A major credit for this enhancement goes to Huawei and its AI techs.
iFlytek said that its new large language models (LLMs) training is entirely based on Huawei AI chips and computing solutions. The firm noted that Huawei’s AI technologies have boosted iFlytek’s potential growth amid the US-China war.
Spark X1 equips Huawei Ascend 910B chips. Last year, these SoCs offered 20% efficiency of Nvidia’s AI chips. But over time, both companies worked on these processors and increased their efficiency up to 80%.
The Founder and Chairman of iFlytek, Liu QingFeng, said:
US restrictions for China’s use of computing power chips will become increasingly strict. State-owned enterprises and critical industries in China will increasingly value self-reliant and controllable LLMs.
Liu added that if China won’t be able to access Nvidia chips, iFlytek’s hard work in making LLMs will provide an important safety net to the country.
The executive further said that iFlytek aims to launch these LLMs globally, as many countries are looking for better alternatives amid Trump’s tariff regulations.

Spark X1 brings useful improvements over its previous versions and allows users to opt for various AI tasks like mathematics, coding, logical reasoning, text generation, language understanding, and knowledge-based question and answers.
The iFlytek company is benefiting from developing its LLMs entirely on Chinese components. As many China-based and global firms are seeking ways to avoid geopolitical risks amid the growing U.S.-China trade export dispute.
