Ant Group Leverages Domestic Chips to Reduce AI Development Costs
China’s rapid progress in artificial intelligence (AI) has seen Ant Group adopting domestic chips for AI model training, reportedly cutting costs by 20%. Sources indicate that Ant Group utilizes chips from associated companies, including Alibaba and Huawei, which have proven to deliver training results similar to those achieved with Nvidia’s H800 chips. Although Ant Group still employs Nvidia’s chips, it is now primarily focusing on alternatives like AMD’s (SMCI, Financial) chips and other Chinese-made semiconductors for developing their latest models.
In a related development, DeepSeek, an AI startup under Fantasia Quantitative Hedge Fund, has introduced its newest model, DeepSeek-R1. The model, developed at a significantly reduced cost, is reported to rival advanced models like those from OpenAI.
