Amazon introduces its new AI chip Trainium3
New chip offers 4.4x more compute performance, 4x greater energy efficiency, almost 4x more memory bandwidth, Amazon says
Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing platform of US e-commerce giant Amazon, announced the launch of its new artificial intelligence (AI) chip called Trainium3 on Tuesday.
The firm said in a statement that the Trainium3 chip offers the opportunity to train and run AI models faster and at a lower cost.
Amazon said,
Trainium3 UltraServers deliver high performance for AI workloads with up to 4.4x more compute performance, 4x greater energy efficiency, and almost 4x more memory bandwidth than Trainium2 UltraServers—enabling faster AI development with lower operational costs,
It stated that the chip delivers exceptional performance with advanced design innovations, optimized connections that accelerate data flow between chips, and advanced memory systems that eliminate bottlenecks in large AI models.
The firm noted,
Beyond raw performance, Trainium3 delivers substantial energy savings—40% better energy efficiency compared to previous generations,
Amazon emphasized that this efficiency matters at scale, enabling it to offer more cost-effective AI infrastructure while reducing environmental impact across its data centers.
It added that AWS is working on the Trainium4 chip, which is designed to support US chipmaker Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion high-speed chip interconnect technology.
